Review of The Jets: A Tribute to Elton John

The City Winery, Washington DC

Sunday July 31, 7:00 PM EDT

Sir Elton is completing his Yellow Brick Tour and retiring from touring in November 2022. But his music lives on in the very capable hands of Josh Christina and his all star band featuring Josh on keys and vocals. Josh is truly remarkable. A great musician, great vocals and a great entertainer. The band features the preeminent bass player, Gary Grainger. Gary’s bass lines are so precise and so energetic that it breathes life to Elton’s great compositions.Teddy grant mans the drums, Alex Rankin on lead guitar, and Dave Ylvisaker on second keyboards. Three excellent background singers: Chelsea Cameron, Holly Miller and Alyssa Gurley add some great harmonies and choruses.

The City Winery was packed and the crowd couldn’t get enough. The setlist isn’t just the best known Elton classics, it features great songs from the Elton songbook that few remember. The first set starts off with Pinball Wizard moves along to I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues, the remarkable Someone Saved My Life Today, the upbeat Honky Cat, and wraps up with Benny and the Jets.

The second set rocks on with Crocodile Rock, Tiny Dancer, Bitch is Back, Rocket Man, Saturday Nights Alright and concludes with Cold Heart.

This isn’t just a tribute band, the Jets have their own style and unique brand of rock entertainment; the Jets are a band providing their own special tribute to the great GOAT, the master songwriter-performer, Elton John

You’re in for a night of top entertainment, don’t miss the Jets if they are in your neighborhood.
